Musings – on the editor’s mind

Late last August, this newspaper’s publisher – me – was seen by some in the community limping around the commercial district Wednesdays delivering the Weekly News to stores and red newspaper boxes. In October the pain from arthritis became so bad I recruited willing volunteers – Brad and Tony had offered to help and Rick already was – to take over the delivery route. In December I told my orthopedic doctor I needed to have my knee replaced and finally went under the knife on March 17.

The next two issues of the Weekly News were put together without me and the two after that saw me hobble in on a part time basis.

Looking at those newspapers, did anyone even know I was gone? The newspaper staff filled in brilliantly despite being under-prepared by their boss. I hope I have adequately expressed my thanks and appreciation to Marissa and Rhonda, producers, editors and designers of the paper. They made a seamless and instantaneous transition in managing those weeks.

Eileen proofread, Anne and Bill wrote even more prolifically, Nancy and Sarah offered photos, all ensuring content each issue. Marissa also wrote and took photos, a star in every way.

Behind the scenes and with fingers and toes in all dike holes, Michelle filled in, participating in production and providing critical support and direction.

I thank them, as I have tried to thank La Conner friends who literally took me in, watched over me, checked in and fed me.

Let me count the ways I thank everyone who became a part of this saga:

Absolutely, with all my heart.

Being profoundly grateful.

Considering their considerations.

Delighting in gifts of food and time.

Enjoying their company.

Finding favor in favors small and large.

Grateful for their time.

Happy for their hospitality.

Gratitude overflowing.

Joyous at their company.

Kindnesses are appreciated.

Loving their love.

Made humble by their efforts.

Noticing their concern.

Open to their kindness.

Praising their caring.

Questioning nothing.

Respecting their time.

Sure of their kindness.

Thankful in all ways.

Unable to stop smiling.

Very grateful.

Welcoming their company.

Extra efforts appreciated.

Yearning to give back.

Zen moments realized by me.

There are nether enough letters nor words to honor adequately all who pitched in and helped out, I thank each and all of you who took a role in making my recovery a calming and peaceful experience.
