Students get snacks

The Rotary Club of La Conner, in partnership with La Conner Elementary School, would like to thank La Conner and the surrounding Skagit Valley for your kindness and generosity for our March Community Project “Snacks for Students.” Thanks to all of you, it was a tremendous success raising $1,600 and 80 pounds of snacks.

Club President Marty Pease thanks Christi King (Rotary Club) and Tammie White (Elementary School Social Worker) for sponsoring the project to stock the student pantry. With a heart for children in their learning and literacy, the Rotary Club felt this would be a perfect community activity that many would want to support. You proved us correct!

The project was put in place to counterbalance the effect of COVID. Prior to COVID, parents were able to send homemade snacks, however new guidance restricted unwrapped snacks into the classrooms to ensure student safety. Most teachers spent their own money to ensure they have snacks for their students. We are so thrilled that we were able to take the burden off the teachers and now the pantry cupboard is full. We have enough monies collected to restock two more times.

We will reassess in the future to determine if we should make this a yearly event! We are so proud and grateful for all of you for making this such a huge success! You should have seen the smiles all around as the children watched the carts coming through the door.

Marty Pease, president

Rotary Club of La Conner
