Higher than ever. The Town of La Conner's May sales tax revenues were $69,866, setting oodles of records: the first May report over $60,000; the earliest month topping $60,000 and 20% above the 2021 record of $ 58,287, $11,579 more. Last year the first month sales tax revenues topped $60,000 was August, itself a record.
The $255,121 in sales tax to date is almost 52% of the year’s projected budget, topping 50% in five months.
Motel/hotel and firetruck sales tax revenues were also monthly records, with $12,633 and $6,985 collected, respectively, Both are 20% above last May’s totals.
May’s property tax report is another highest ever total: $111,947, 9% higher than last May and only the third month since 2018 $100,000 has been exceeded. The year’s collection is 57.7% of the budgeted amount at the five month, 42% mark. It is a reflection of the high price in local real estate sales.
The trend in all three tax collections is for increasing sales and higher revenue through October.
Data are reported from the Department of Revenue on a two month time lag. Totals are based on collections from town businesses and online purchases delivered to La Conner addresses and reported to town council.
