On Saturday, July 9th, 2022, the world lost an amazing husband, father, grandfather and friend. Jay, William Jay Thorp, passed away peacefully at his home on the beautiful La Conner waterfront, with his family surrounding him with love and great care.
Jay was born in Auburn, Washington on October 3rd, 1953. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Peggy, son Matt, daughter-in-law Ariel, daughter Jenny, youngest daughter Margo and son-in-law Blake. Jay was the proud grandfather of five amazing grandsons, Jaden, Noah, Max, Wyatt and Torin as well as one beautiful granddaughter, Jessica.
As a young man, Jay shared many memories of his time in Auburn, leading the infamous football team to great victories. Many of the great friends he made in life, he kept in touch with for years. He met the love of his life, Peggy, on Halloween and although they were married shortly after, they continued to refer to themselves as “boyfriend/girlfriend” until the end.
Jay loved his community and in 1994 opened the Auburn Family Sports Center. This business became a successful and positive place for youth and families to spend time together in the batting cages, playing a fun round of mini-golf, or simply enjoying some delicious pizza. He took great pride in everything he created.
After retiring, Jay and Peggy relocated to their La Conner oasis. Jay spent many wonderful years beachcombing, crabbing, creating unique and beautiful beach art that he sold at local farmer’s markets, and most of all, enjoying quality family time.
Jay taught his family the value of hard work, the importance of honesty and integrity but most importantly how to love and cherish each other. He was the life of the party and will forever be missed in our hearts.
