Between gift giving generosity and tourists wanting to get out of their hometowns, La Conner registers jingled merrily in December.
Town of La Conner sales tax revenue reported in February was a record $63,103, $ 6,556 and 11.6% above 2022’s previous record. Not till May did a month’s sales tax revenues top $63,000 last year. The $106,494 two-month total is one-sixth of this year’s projected budget.
Shoppers flocked to La Conner for holiday shopping; data are reported on a two month time lag. These are November and December's revenues.
The $ 6,279 firetruck sales tax receipts were a record, also the first time above $6,000 before May and almost 12% above February 2022.
There were more overnight stays in December, too, and a monthly record of hotel/motel tax receipts of $11,438, $2,029 and 17.7% above 2022’s collection.
Only one month’s revenues have been recorded for both property and REET (real estate excise tax, the tax on the sale of real property), so not much to analyze.
Totals are based on December collections from town businesses and online purchases delivered to La Conner addresses and reported to town council by the state’s Department of Revenue.
La Conner has a calendar fiscal year.
