Brayden Pedroza has been a scoring machine for the La Conner High School boys' basketball team this season.
He is also scoring points with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association leadership.
Pedroza was selected as one of its Athlete of the Week Award recipients after he meshed 22 and 27 points, respectively, in Braves' victories over Concrete and Sound Christian Academy the weekend of Jan. 5-6.
Pedroza, was named a Skagit Valley Herald Athlete of the Week in December. He is averaging 21.6 points per outing.
Pedroza has proven durable as well, said coach Lance Lopez, citing the junior guard's ability to play 30 minutes (out of 32) per contest.
Against Concrete, Pedroza knocked down three perimeter treys and recorded three steals and dished off a trio of assists.
He helped La Conner stave off a Sound Christian rally by converting eight of nine second half free throws.
Each week the WIAA and Gesa Credit Union recognizes student-athletes for outstanding performances and impactful contributions in their communities. Students in good academic standing are eligible.
Each Athlete of the Week receives a letter of recognition from the WIAA executive director, a certificate of achievement and a $25 gift card to Dick's Sporting Goods courtesy of Gesa Credit Union.
The WIAA governs extra-curricular and sports competitions across the state.
