Grateful for help at Shelter Bay

To the editor:

I have lived in Shelter Bay for 24 years this month. We have had good times and troubled times as spring mends from the winter. Our community is also on the mend.

First, I want to thank all the volunteers and staff for their rugged, thankless work over the years.

Today, I am watching the cleaning of blackberries from the greenbelt. I picture a few picnic tables under the trees. From my window, I can see the new playground equipment waiting to be installed. The tennis courts are alive with players, and more people are out and about. The pool may open for temporary use thanks to the hard work of our new manager and staff.

Unfortunately, we recently lost two exceptional board members for personal reasons. Whoever fills their positions will strive to meet their high standards.

If each able property owner can spend just a few hours cutting down blackberry bushes each fall, we can maintain this fire protection and beautification goal.

Peace to my neighbors,

Michael J. Hennessey
