Middle school girls win JV track meet

Other teams brought larger rosters, but the host La Conner Middle School girls’ junior varsity track team had Faith.

As in Faith Jenkins, who won three solo events to lead La Conner to top honors in its portion of a nine-school junior varsity track meet at Whittaker Field last Thursday.

Jenkins, a seventh grader, swept the girls’ short sprints. She clocked 13.39 in the 100 meters and hit the 200-meter tape in 29.08. She captured the high jump with a leap of 4’-0”.

Jenkins also joined teammates Rory Bird, Mia Delage and Cecilia Keith to place second in the sprint relay at 1:02.53.

Bird and Pauline Wright joined Jenkins as individual girls’ JV winners. Bird claimed the 100-meter hurdles title with a 20.72 finish. Wright won the 400 meters in 1:17.99.

The La Conner eighth grade girls placed seventh on the varsity team leaderboard. They were paced by thrower Madison Miller, who mined gold in the discus with a toss of 61’-7”.

On the boys’ side of the meet, the La Conner sixth and seventh graders finished sixth overall in the junior varsity competition. The Braves’ eighth graders were eighth in the team standings.

The La Conner boys were led by seventh grader Sylas Walls and eighth grader Vireo Ang ell.

Walls was runner-up in the boys’ JV 800 meter run with a time of 2:38.78. Angell was the third-place entrant in the varsity javelin at 74’-8”.

The La Conner Middle School thinclads resume action April 25 at a 10-school meet at Burlington-Edison High School. Events start at 3:45 p.m. at Kirkby Field.
