La Conner alumni meet Saturday to honor Swanson, Class of 2024

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Through more than a century, as La Conner has evolved to its present state as a major tourist destination, its schools have remained a cornerstone.

That is perhaps best symbolized by the La Conner High School Alumni Association, the oldest active organization of its kind in Washington state and which holds its 110th annual banquet and program at 5 p.m. Saturday, June 1, at the middle school gym.

La Conner alumni from across the years will gather then to honor the graduating class of 2024 and one of their own – 1975 La Conner grad Dean Swanson, recipient of this year’s outstanding alumnus award.

Gary Eldore, Class of ’79, will serve as master of ceremonies for the evening’s business program, which follows a dinner catered by the La Conner Seafood and Prime Rib House.

The event serves as a major scholarship fundraiser for La Conner Schools, with alumni encouraged to donate $1 per year since their respective graduations. Funds collected go to the La Conner Community Scholarship Foundation, which administers the alumni association scholarship and whose goal is to serve all of La Conner’s graduates.

Each year the foundation awards scholarships to members of the graduating class.

La Conner alums unable to attend Saturday’s banquet and program may support the cause by mailing their annual dues and scholarship donation to P.O. Box 932, La Conner, WA 98257.
