Plan for July 4 parade, live music, fireworks in town

There's one summer rerun that's a guaranteed hit in La Conner.

It's the annual Hometown Independence Day celebration here, featuring a parade down First Street, a slew of July 4 activities with live music at the La Conner Marina and a fireworks display over Swinomish Channel.

"It will pretty much be the same as every year," Town Administrator Scott Thomas said.

The variety of events assures that everyone in La Conner will again have a blast on the Fourth of July.

The fun starts at noon with the downtown parade. Staging begins at 11 a.m. on State Street in front of the marina's south basin parking area.

At 5 p.m., food vendors and a beer and wine garden will open at the marina, followed by live music at 5:30 p.m., said Linda Lipke. The former La Conner gallery owner represents the Rick Epting Foundation for the Arts and serves as events manager for the July 4 concert.

First up is Pacific Twang, a country group from Mount Vernon noted for its tight harmonies and stellar musicianship. The Power Players Band takes the stage at 7:30 p.m.

Lipke said concertgoers will be tempted by strawberry shortcake and other delights from Schuh Farms, hot dogs, barbecue, kettle korn and Hawaiian ice.

The festivities wrap up with fireworks on the channel at 10 p.m.

The Epting Foundation, Port of Skagit, and Town of La Conner are tri-sponsors of the celebration. The marina events raise money for the La Conner Schools music and arts programs.
