Library Happenings

So much is happening at the library this summer! We are very excited to have close to 100 kids signed up for summer reading, which goes through the end of August. Don’t forget to keep filling in your reading logs so you can turn them in at the end of summer for a prize and keep checking the calendar for weekly fun events.

We have some great kids’ events coming up.

Our first annual Junior Art Walk will take place Aug. 23. The goal this summer is to have fun creating art and exploring various expressions of art. Every Wednesday from 10-11:30 a.m. through Aug. 14, we’ll have art workshops at the library to help youth ages 10-18 create art to display publicly during the art walk. Wednesday, July 24, come learn about taking great photos with your cell phone. Wednesday, July 31, learn all about illustrations. We will provide all supplies and snacks. If you would like to participate in the art walk, please contact the library or come to a Wednesday workshop to sign up.

Young adult songwriting workshop, Tuesday, Aug. 20, with Keeth Apgar. Come to the library from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. to create your own original song with professional songwriter Keeth Apgar. Pizza lunch and snacks provided. The workshop is free, but space is limited so pre-registration is required. Call 360-466-3352 or visit the library to sign up.

From 1-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 9, join us to learn how to make a simple book with artist Nicolette Harrington. The workshop is free, but space is limited. Please call 360-466-3352 or visit the library before Aug. 7 to pre-register.

Finally, something for adults, the Harmonaires return to the library for a free concert from 5-6 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 1. Make it a night on the town, come to the concert then take your sweetheart out to dinner.

The library is hiring! We are looking for a part-time library assistant to join our team. We are looking for someone to work 20 hours per week who loves libraries, is familiar with social media, and who wants to be part of a great team. Stop by the library for a full job description.

Check out some of the great new books we have in the library!

If you ever wonder what to do with your leftovers, check out “The Everlasting Meal Cookbook” by Tamara Adler. This great cookbook has over 1,500 recipes that will help you figure out what to do with those pesky leftovers in your refrigerator before they go bad.
