La Conner's kids will show their artistic talent at the inaugural Junior Art Walk Aug. 23. The Museum of Northwest Art, participating local businesses, restaurants and galleries will open their doors to showcase junior artworks in their windows throughout the day and weekend.
The art walk takes place along Morris and First streets. It will feature a colorful array of pieces crafted by budding artists ranging from ages 10-18. Young artists have been supported with supplies, space and instruction for their creation of finished artwork they will display within La Conner's business community.
The project and the weekend is free and open to the public thanks to the generous donations made last August during the Tom Robbins day Parade and Community Raffle. It has been developed by the La Conner Swinomish Library in collaboration with MONA Link and Swinomish Indian Tribal Community.
It kicks off 3:30 p.m. at the La Conner Swinomish Library. Saturday and Sunday take the self-guided art tour.
"We are thrilled to launch the first-ever Junior Art Walk in La Conner," said Stephanie Banaszak, library board member. "This event is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the imagination and talent of our youth. The formal art walk takes place Friday afternoon, Aug. 23 and stays up for the entire weekend. La Conner will be alive with inspiration and artistic exploration, reinforcing its artful heritage by celebrating youth art, their families and mentors and the entire community."
All La Conner artists ages 10-18 are encouraged to participate in the weekly art modules held at the library's meeting room Wednesdays, from 10-11:30 a.m. Refreshments and art supplies are provided.
Adult La Conner artists are still needed to mentor the remaining art modules. To volunteer, call the library at 360-466-3352.
