Artists ages 10-18, it is not too late to join the Junior Art Walk. If you have art that you made and would like to show in businesses around town, please bring it to the library by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 21. Make sure your name and phone number are on the back.
Summer is winding down and so is summer reading, but we still have tons of fun activities here at the library before school starts. Musicians ages 10-18, come to the library on Tuesday, Aug. 20 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. for our day long song writing workshop with musician Keeth Apgar; lunch and snacks provided. Please be sure to sign up ahead – call or stop by the library.
For our younger readers, come see a fire truck up close! Firefighter Natalie will be at the library with a fire truck and a fellow firefighter for a special story time on Friday, Aug. 23, 11-11:30 a.m.
Friday, Aug. 30 is the last day of summer reading. We’ll be making ice cream after story time. Bring your mittens: Making handmade ice cream is a cold business! It is rumored that the very hungry caterpillar will be donating cookies for this event.
Also, summer readers, don’t forget to bring your completed reading logs to the library and pick up your prize.
Our late summer/early fall programming kicks off on Wednesday, Aug. 28, 6-7 p.m. Join local photographer Andy Porter to learn about how to capture the perfect night sky photo.
Tuesday, Sept. 17, 1-3 p.m., join us for a Lushootseed storytelling workshop focused on Lady Louse, a favorite of Vi Hilbert. Please RSVP via [email protected] or call or stop by the library to secure your spot at this engaging workshop co-hosted by our Library Foundation and Lushootseed Research. Swinomish Lushootseed teacher Kyle Bailey, will be presenting as will Lady Louse experts Rebecca Chamberlain, Janet Yoder and Robby Rudine. Come to learn about Lady Louse, the power of storytelling and to even write your own Lady Louse tale if you would like! Refreshments, coffee and tea will be included.
Saturday, Sept. 21, 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Dr. Gerry Ebalaraoza-Tunnell will lead a workshop on “The Power of Ha: Engaging the Breath of Life.” Lunch will be provided. Please RSVP via [email protected] or call or stop by the library to join this immersive workshop on the profound impact of breathwork and embodying the principles of Aloha – ask, listen, observe, heart and adapt. Dr. Gerry is dedicated to fostering the principles of connection, compassion and cohesive community.
