Theodore Frank Schnase

Theodore Frank Schnase passed away with family by his side on Aug. 1, 2024. Ted was born on March 8, 1937, to Alice (Twaddle) and Theodore Schnase in Port Angeles. The family owned the Sunrise Bakery and Ted worked there alongside his parents. He spent as much of his early years as he could beside the Elwha River and had many fond memories of picnicking, hiking, swimming, fishing and exploring throughout the wilderness of the Olympic Mountains.

Ted graduated from Port Angeles High School in 1955. He and his wife Bessie made their home there with their three daughters – Charlene, Cheryl and Annette. The family then moved to Edmonds, where Ted worked in the bakery at Grocery Boys. He later managed the bakery in the Yard Birds in Chehalis.

Ted moved to Raymond in 1968 and took over Bill and Mary's Bakery in the old Dick's Supermarket. The bakery thrived and was always busy. Ted baked an incredible assortment of cookies, donuts, pastries, cakes and breads and he loved hearing about people's favorites. He married Cheryl Pederson in 1972 and they had two daughters – Melissa and Thea. Ted retired in 1998 and moved to La Conner in 2005. He spent his retirement years fishing, boating, walking beside the salt water and being with family.

Above all else, Ted loved being a dad and grandpa. He was playful, funny, devoted, steady and reliable and deeply loved. He was a gifted fisherman and being on or near the water was always his favorite place to be. Ted had a delightful sense of humor and an incredible curiosity about the world.

Ted is survived by his five daughters – Charlene, Cheryl, Annette, Melissa and Thea – ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

A memorial and potluck meal will be held at the Raymond First Baptist Church (913 Duryea Street) on October 12 at 3 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Donations can be made in Ted's name to the L.V. Raymond Foundation (PO Box 423 Raymond, WA 98577) or The Answer For Youth (PO Box 633 Port Angeles, WA 98362).
