Town Council of La Conner:

Regarding my 18’ artisan fence donation, accepted by the Town Arts Commission Sept. 3, 2022 for installation in the Butterfly Garden adjoining the Civic Garden Club, South Second Street:

1. After thirteen contractors quickly or lengthily turned down the project, many no with reason given.

2. Note: I am paying for the total installation which Public Works Director Brian Lease advised, “would be not more than $15,000.” (I’ll pay more if needed).

3. Director Lease said his crew is capable of doing the work only if time is available.

4. March, 2025, would be ideal timing, prior to April’s influx for the Tulip Festival.

5. President of Civic Garden Club, Kim Good-Rubenstein, has spent time at the site with contractors and me to help expedite installation and agrees with Director Lease on placement of the 18’. John Leaver has also helped.

6. All parties agree: GOOD FOR THE TOWN.

7. Now, I request your esteemed fixed time placement on a specific schedule. The Civic Garden Club cannot be leased on the weekend before the week of foundation installation and the week of structure assembly and installation.

NOTE: Director Lease would advise the number of days needed in week one (perhaps three) and week two (also three: contractors’ estimates varied).

Thank you for your timely action to make this actually benefit the town.

Respectfully,

Jean Wharton

La Conner
