St. Clair tops Muzzall in initial vote count

Incumbent county commissioners lead

Tuesday night’s first vote counts put Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair in the lead for Washington’s legislative district 10 Senate seat with 50.1% of the vote.

Incumbent Senator Ron Muzzall (R- Oak Harbor) trailed at 49.8%. Almost 44,000 ballots were counted in the district of three counties.

St. Clair led in Skagit County with 56.4% and in Island County with 56.1%. Muzzall has 58% of votes in Snohomish County.

While St. Clair leads in Skagit County by 762 votes, her districtwide lead is 153 votes.

Incumbents Skagit County Commissioners Ron Wesen (R-Bow) and Peter Browning (I-Mount Vernon) lead in their races.

Wesen has 64.9% to Rylee Fleury’s 35.1%, similar to the primary election results. Browning leads Mount Vernon Councilmember Richard Brocksmith 59% to 41%. In both races over 33,300 votes were cast.

In the LD 10 Pos 1 contest, State Rep. Clyde Shavers (D-Oak Harbor) has 54% of the 43,670 votes counted districtwide, well ahead of Republican Carrie Kennedy’s 45%.

State Rep Dave Paul (D-Oak Harbor) has a similar lead, with has 54.2% of the 43,640 votes.

The LD 10 includes the southwestern portion on Skagit County, the northwestern tip of Snohomish County and all of Island County.

Turnout in Skagit County is estimated to be 73% of 88,818 registered voters.

Counties will update vote totals by 5 p.m. today and probably daily through Friday.
