UPDATE: LD 10 senate race even tighter after second day of vote counts

Other incumbents comfortably ahead

Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair’s lead has shrunk to 61 votes against State Sen. Ron Muzzall's (R-Oak Harbor) after Wednesday’s vote counts were announced. She leads 50% to 49.9% but there are still some 135,500 ballots to count. An estimated 64.5% of ballots in the three county district have been counted by totals posted by the county election offices.

St. Clair leads by 808 votes in Skagit County and by 3,008 votes in Island County, while Muzzall leads by 3,755 votes in Snohomish County. About 52% of district residents live in Island County and 37% live in Snohomish County. LD 10 includes the southwestern portion on Skagit County, the northwestern tip of Snohomish County and all of Island County.

Incumbent LD 10 State Reps. Clyde Shavers (D-Oak Harbor), Pos 1, and Dave Paul (D-Oak Harbor), Pos. 2, have comfortable leads of at least 4,700 votes, over 54% for their contests.

Incumbent Skagit County Commissioners Ron Wesen (R-Bow) and Peter Browning (I-Mount Vernon) have increased their leads in total votes over Hope Island challenger Rylee Fleury and Mount Vernon City Councilmember Richard Brocksmith, respectively. Wesen has 64.6% and Browning 58.8%. Skagit County elections staff estimate 38,105 ballots remain to be counted.

In Skagit County, Vice President Kamala Harris has 54.8% of the vote. Three of the four state initiatives are being defeated with at least 53% of the vote. Initiative 2066, mandating the option of allowing natural gas usage, is passing with 55.4% of the vote here.

All three counties will post vote tally updates by 6 p.m.
