Incumbent Skagit County commissioners, LD 10 state repreentatives will win
State Sen. Ron Muzzall's (R-Oak Harbor) leads by almost two percent, 50.9% to 49%, and 1,458 votes in the race for his state legislative district 10 seat against Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair after the first week of counting ballots in the 2024 general election.
He gained an additional 884 votes after 12,161 ballots were tallied Friday and Saturday (only Skagit County staff worked a shift Nov. 9) in the district, which also includes part of Snohomish County and all of Island County.
There are an estimated 32,500 ballots to count in the three counties. All 10,000 Island County votes are in LD 10. It is not known how many of Skagit County's estimated 10,000 ballots and Snohomish County's 12,500 ballots are in LD 10.
Other LD 10 and Skagit County commissioner incumbents are on their way to reelection.
State Rep. Clyde Shavers (D-Oak Harbor) claimed victory for his LD 10 Pos. 1 seat in an email to supporters Saturday, writing “my heart is filled with gratitude as we celebrate our election win.” He has 53.2% of the vote and a 5,043 lead against Island County resident and Republican challenger Carrie Kennedy.
LD 10 Pos 2 State Representative Dave Paul has a slightly larger lead of 5,640 votes and a 7.2% margin, 53.6% to 46.2% against Republican challenger Island County resident Gary Wray.
Incumbent Skagit County Commissioners Ron Wesen (R-Bow) and Peter Browning (I-Mount Vernon) will win reelection. Wesen has a 14,268 lead and 63.5% of the vote to Hope Island resident Rylee Fleury’s 36.2%. First elected in 2008, Wesen next term will be his fifth.
Browning has won a second term, leading Mount Vernon Councilmember Richard Brocksmith 60.1% to 39.6%. Browning has a 10,825 vote lead after Saturday's tallies. Almost 800 more votes, a total of 52,985 were cast in the Browning-Brocksmith contest.
Skagit County election staff estimate over 69,000, 78% of the county's 88,818 registered voters have cast ballots.
In Skagit County, Vice President Kamala Harris has 31,323 and 53.43%of the vote.
All three counties will post vote tally updates by 6 p.m. Nov. 12.
