State Sen. Ron Muzzall's (R-Oak Harbor) has won reelection to his state legislative district 10 senate seat His margin is 2.1%, 51% to 48.9%, and 1,849 votes against Island County Commissioner Janet St. Clair after Snohomish County election staff reported totals Saturday. He has led since the third day of tally reports.
The election offices in the three-county district estimate 2,650 ballots remain to be counted. Most, 1,800, are in Skagit County but LD 10 precincts are only in the southwest portion of the county. There are some 750 uncounted ballots in Snohomish County, but only the northwest corner has LD 10 precincts. The 100 or so ballots in Island County are all in LD 10.
Incumbent LD 10 State Reps. Clyde Shavers (D-Oak Harbor, Pos 1) and Dave Paul (D-Oak Harbor, Pos 2) increased their vote leads, as they have since election night. Shavers has 59% and leads by 5,793 votes against Republican Carrie Kennedy after the week’s tallies. Paul gained 59.3% and is 6,566 votes up on Republican Gary Wray.
Incumbent Skagit County Commissioners Ron Wesen and Peter Browning have also increased their margins of victory with every ballot count since election day. Wesen leads Hope Island resident Rylee Fleury with 62.8% and by 15,636 votes. Browning has a 13,048 vote lead, 60.5%, against Mount Vernon Councilmember Richard Brocksmith.
All three LD 10 district counties will update ballot counts at the end of Monday afternoon, Nov. 18.
Skagit County election staff estimate over 70,500, 79.4% of the county's 88,818 registered voters, have cast ballots. The Weekly News will report new totals in its Nov. 20 edition.
